Grimsargh plays host to a number of regular events as part of its annual festivities calendar. Collectively, the community also organises other one-off events that bring us together - be it to celebrate, fundraise or improve our village.
Monthly Events
A Farmer's Market is held on the third Saturday of most months at Grimsargh Village Hall.
Annual Events
Field Day
Perhaps the highlight of the Village's annual calendar and an event that is enjoyed by the whole village. Grimsargh Field Day incorporates a parade along Preston Road - with decorated floats, fancy dress, classic motors and much more including, of course, the Rose Queen and her retinue! The parade culminates with an afternoon of celebration and fun at the Village Green - fairground rides, stalls, competition prizes, sports and stalls. Oh, and not forgetting the Village scarecrow competition.
St Michael's Garden Party
This delightful event takes place each year on the third Saturday in June, starting at 2.30pm.
The children of St Michaels Primary School and their families and friends gather in the grounds of the school, where there is a selection of stalls and entertainments, together with teas and refreshments being served.
Each of the classes of children performs a dance routine, for which they will have been practising for weeks with their teachers.
Entrance is by donation. For further information contact one of the Churchwardens: Phillip Cowell on 01772 651772 or Mark Lamberty on 01772 798017.
Carols Around the Crib
This is a combined event with the Grimsargh Churches: Grimsargh St Michael's CofE Church and the Church of Our Lady and St Michael's RC Church at Alston. The Crib is positioned near the Village Post Office during the Christmas period.
The Carol Service takes place on a Friday, usually two weeks before Christmas at 6.30pm, with the group congregating around the crib - weather permitting! A series of carols and readings take place and then refreshments are offered within Grimsargh Club.
It is an event enjoyed by all, across all ages.
Grimsargh Flower, Produce and Handicraft Show
The Grimsargh Flower Produce and Handcraft Show is a traditional Village Show with all the usual classes for fruit, vegetables, flowers, plants and produce. There are also classes for arts, crafts and photography together with a children's section.
The Show takes place every year on the second Saturday in August. Hundreds of entries come in from the village and outlying areas and a lovely day is had by all.
The Show is organised by a small and dedicated Committee.
GVCA Christmas Fair
The Christmas fair at Grimsargh Village Hall is a major fund-raising event in support of the Village Hall and Community Groups (not-for-profit hall users).
The Fair is opened by the Rose Queen, accompanied by her Retinue and there is then a range of colourfull stalls offering gifts, games, raffles and much more.
Santa also visits the Fair each year so the children can see him to let him know their wishes for Christmas.
It's a fun event and puts everyone in the mood for the festivities to come!
